CentrepointSofia was nine when she came to the UK with her Aunt after fleeing the civil war in Somalia. She'd been staying with friends and relatives but had outstayed her welcome and had nowhere else to go.

She was extremely shy and quiet when Ray the Foundations for Life advice worker first met her. He has given her vocational guidance which has helped her decide she wants to work in the Travel and Tourism industry. She wanted to do a Virgin Airlines Fares and Ticketing course but this was expensive, however with help from Ray she was able to secure a crisis grant to cover the cost. She applied for the course and after having an interview, she was successful.

Ray and the rest of the FFL team have continued to support Sofia in pursuing her career goals, helping her with small grants for equipment, clothing and space to study.

“The FFL team is great. If it was not for them I would not have been able to get on my course. There wasn’t this sort of support at Bruce House before the FFL centre was built and the new staff started.”
