LandAid Raises £5,300 for Chartered Surveyors Training Trust's New Mentoring Scheme

This week LandAid donated £5,300 to the Chartered Surveyors Training Trust (CSTT), a charity that helps young people from challenging and diverse backgrounds become chartered surveyors.

Rob Bould a Trustee from LandAid and member of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors presented the cheque to Roger Southam, Chairman of the CSTT and Chief Executive of property management company Chainbow.

The money was raised through a successful classical concert LandAid held at Christ Church in Spitalfields in association with the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors.  The concert attracted a number of property professionals connected with the Livery who were keen to see the talented students of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama perform.

The donation will help the CSTT establish a new mentoring scheme that will benefit its current and future apprentices.  The scheme is being developed in partnership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors and the College of Estate Management.   Trainees who meet the rigorous criteria will be placed with an approved employer and work their way towards RICS membership.  Mentors will be young newly qualified surveyors introduced by these key partners who will provide both online and face-to-face support.

Rob Bould, Trustee to LandAid and Chairman to the National Charities Committee at GVA Grimley comments: “We’re delighted to make this donation to the CSTT, an organisation LandAid strongly endorses and believes in. Thanks to the support we receive from within the industry we can look forward to further sustained investment in people’s futures.”

Roger Southam, Chairman of the Chartered Surveyors Training Trust comments: “Thanks to LandAid’s ardent support and generous donation we are now in a position to progress with a mentoring scheme that will further strengthen our wider programme to provide underprivileged people with a genuine chance to make a better life for themselves.”

LandAid in Property Week Article | Print |  E-mail
Property Week have been kind enough to publish an article on our Grant Awards to tell the industry about the projects we are funding.  You can read it in full below.

Property Week
01.05.09

LandAid Chairman Robin BroadhurstFirst, my thanks to the readers of Property Week for donating almost £5,000 to LandAid at the Property Awards last month

This message of thanks also gives me an opportunity to explain what else the industry’s charity does.

LandAid has agreed more than £40,000 in grants to organisations around the country that share its concern with homelessness.

  • A £2.6m project by Emmaus in Winchester, Hampshire, will receive £8,000 towards start-up costs and equipment. The social enterprise live-work project for 23 homeless men and women aims to move them towards independent living and reintegration into society. The project will collect and recycle second-hand goods and furniture.
  • The Canaan Trust in Nottingham will receive £8,200 for the interior and exterior renewal of two properties for single homeless men. Canaan provides education and training in life skills – one of LandAid’s priorities.
  • £8,000 goes to St Mungo’s in London’s Paddington to equip its expanded wood workshop, which produces furniture and garden equipment for sale.
  • Haven House, which looks after homeless women and children in Sheffield, will receive the £5,500 cost of converting part of its building.
  • The Booth Centre at Manchester Cathedral will have £5,124 to fund three work-based training projects to move homeless people on to employment or further training for education or voluntary work in the community.
  • Genesis Trust in Bath will have £5,000 towards a life skills project and support for nine projects it has to help those on low incomes, in poor housing, or who are homeless or unemployed.

James Anderson at the finish of Cycle to Cannes 2009

We are thrilled that James Anderson, Residential Policy Officer at the British Property Federation will be getting on his bike to take part in Cycle to Cannes to raise money for LandAid.  James will be cycling a tough 1500km over six days from London to MIPIM, the property conference in Cannes, southern France.

James is a keen cycling enthusiast and has already started training but his first challenge will be getting a suitable bike, one with gears perhaps!  His aim is to raise as much money as possible and he needs our help to do it!  Please show your support for James’s fantastic efforts and donate online here.

You can view photos from his gruelling training schedule on his JustGiving page , he has been up early cycling round Richmond Park and East London.  James is sure to be the fastest cyclist on his daily commute now!

Cycle to Cannes has become an annual event and aims to raise a huge £400,000 for a host of charities this year.

We have been lucky enough to have been a beneficiary charity since the first ride in 2006.
