Cannes sees C2C succeed | Print |  E-mail
Cycle2Cannes 2007The second Ediston Calais to Cannes (C2C) cycle event, organised to coincide with MIPIM, rolled into the French Riviera with enviable timing, discipline and style.  As the cortege of over fifty riders arrived n front of the Palais de Congres to cheering supporters (and a few bemused Russian dancers), the four teams resplendent in matching outfits and suitably escorted by motorcycle outriders and a wonderfully sponsor-decorated tour bus, the sense of pride in what was a magnificent achievement was palpable.

Having lost not a single rider over the four days, the event had raised nearly a quarter of a million pounds to the four nominated charities, of which LandAid was one.  Once the photocall was over, the bikes packed away and after an emotional farewell for the French support team, the teams moved to the London stand within the Palais where a ceremonial baton (looking suspiciously like a rear mudguard) was presented to the Deputy Mayor of London.

Having trebled in size from 2006, and with so much fun and endeavour, the event looks like growing still further for 2008.  Surrounded by the opulence and extravagance that is the MIPIM event, it was a chastening and ultimately humbling experience to see these generous and warm-hearted men and women bring a welcome reminder of the need for charity and compassion.  Well done to them all!
