LandAid Day is a big success! | Print |  E-mail
MEPCOn Friday 15 October some of the biggest names in the UK commercial property industry united to take part in the first ever LandAid Day, a sector-wide fundraising event which is expected to raise £100,000 for the property industry charity, LandAid.

Individuals and companies throughout the industry have been raising cash through various shenanigans including conker competitions, cake sales, poker tournaments, row-a-thons, dressing up, dressing down, swear boxes, basketball shootouts and even rock gigs.  Argent, British Land, CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield, GVA Grimley, Hammerson, Helical Bar, Knight Frank, Land Securities and Savills are just some of the leading firms involved.


Support for LandAid Day has reached the upper echelons of the sector, including LandAid trustees Rob Bould, Robin Broadhurst, Lynette Lackey, Liz Peace and David Taylor who are joining the GVA Grimley abseil. John Stephen the former chairman of Jones Lang LaSalle set the pace by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Minister Stays Standing for LandAid Day | Print |  E-mail
Tug-of-war-group-shotCommunities & Local Government Minister headlines public vs private sector tug of war to raise awareness of LandAid Day. Private sector wins 2:1!

On Monday 11 October, the Department for Communities and Local Government Minister Bob Neill lead a public vs private sector tug of war that took place to raise awareness of LandAid Day – the first ever property sector-wide fundraising event on 15 October.

The Private sector won 2-1 in fiercely fought competition. Bob Neil the Minister took the the strain but remained standing!

The event organised to promote LandAid Day and is to encourage all those working in the sector to help raise over £100,000 to transform the lives of young and disadvantaged people.

Property Week Champions League for LandAid Day | Print |  E-mail
PropertyWeek.comPropety Week have teamed up with four leading industry bodies to stage the Property Week Champions League from 2.30pm on LandAid Day on Friday 15 October. All are welcome at the seven-a-side football tournament.

Mountgrange respond to the LandAid Day call to action | Print |  E-mail
Mountgrange Pub QuizMountgrange are the latest company to respond to the property industry charity’s call to action and announce how they are supporting the first ever LandAid Day 15 October 2010.

The private real estate fund headed by Manish Chande and Martin Myers has entered into the fundraising spirit by organising a pub quiz, penalty basketball shootout and bake sale!

Project Update: Booth Centre in Manchester | Print |  E-mail
Certificate presentation at the Booth CentreEarlier this year LandAid, the property industry charity made a grant of £5,100 to the Booth Centre in Manchester to fund two pilot work-based training projects. The centre has just celebrated its 15th Anniversary and is recognised as one of the best day centres in the country; providing homeless people with structured activities, support and advice.

LandAid’s grant has enabled the centre to run courses in Health and Safety and First Aid so homeless people can learn new skills. The course was extremely successful with 31 people gaining 49 nationally accredited qualifications. The second work based course gave 15 people conservation experience working on a garden for RHS Tatton Park Garden Show and three months improving a local park for Manchester City Council.

Following the courses all participants received individual intensive help applying for jobs or looking for voluntary work. 20 people have moved on to further training, 6 people are regularly applying for jobs and 2 have gained employment.
