Centrepoint

Type: Foundations for Life
Area: London

Project: Learning hubs established in Centrepoint hostels to deliver tailored learning programmes to enable their young residents to learn the skills they need to live independently.

Centrepoint is the leading provider of youth homelessness services in London. In 2008 they worked with1800 young people, over half of those were under 20 years old, over a third had slept rough and one in six had been in ‘care’. Their services include emergency accommodation, longer term accommodation, support, information and training.

The Project
LandAid has been supporting Centrepoint projects since 1986. Currently we are funding a series of ‘Foundations for Life’ (FFL) centres within their hostels where young people can learn the skills they need to transform their lives and live independently.

So far 5 FFL centres have been created, with bright and airy computer rooms, healthy living centres and teaching facilities. The FFL funding also provides dedicated support workers that deliver a tailored learning programme to each resident so that they are better prepared to achieve and sustain independent lives once they move on from FFL.
