Fairbridge

Type: Grant Award

Area: Hackney, London

Project: New flagship learning centre for young people not in education, training or employment.

Working out of 15 centres in the UK, Fairbridge is a national charity supporting young people aged 13-25 to develop the confidence, motivation and skills they need to turn their lives around.

The project

A specially designed new centre in Hackney was made possible with a lead gift of £50,000 from LandAid. It replaces their old premises with larger brighter facilities where over 200 young people can come to away from the streets and take part in constructive and challenging activities.

The young people who come to the centre face many problems but Fairbridge helps them get back to school or find a job through a long term programme of encouragement, personal support and opportunities. In 2008 over 64% of the young people in Hackney were able to move on positively, now with better facilities even more young people will have the opportunity to go on and succeed.
