Roberts Centre

Portsmouth

Grant: £20,000

The need

Portsmouth has high rates of teenage pregnancy and children in care. Educational attainment is low and family breakdown - the biggest cause of youth homelessness - is an all too common scenario.

The Roberts Centre tackles the underlying causes of homelessness by helping families that are going through challenging circumstances. They provide them with financial and housing advice as well as a play scheme for children in temporary accommodation.

The project

LandAid awarded the The Roberts Centre a grant to help with the development of their new premises, and also arranged pro bono property advice for the charity from construction company Laing O'Rourke.

The impact

The grant and accompanying pro bono support will help The Roberts Centre provide support to struggling families and tackle the root causes of homelessness as soon as possible.
