DTZ organised their own ‘Bike Week’ in support of LandAid. Staff collectively cycled 21,960 miles – double the distance between London and Sydney, raising a whopping £35,000 for LandAid!
The inaugural DTZ Bike Week (18 - 24 May 2013) proved to be a resounding success. The original target of collectively cycling 10,557 miles (the distance from London to Sydney) was not only beaten by the DTZ UK staff, but more than doubled to a total of 21,960 miles.
Events throughout the week included mountain biking across the Cairngorms in Scotland, an early morning spin class in London, cycling between DTZ offices and client meetings, competitive cycling on spin bikes set up in each office, alongside hundreds of individual miles pledged through daily commutes and additional bike rides.
The week culminated with several wrap events, including races and entertainment at the Herne Hill Velodrome in South London, the Wales National Velodrome in Newport, South Wales, and a London to Brighton ride. Even the traditionally bad British weather couldn’t dampen spirits.
A key aim of the week was to raise money for LandAid, who DTZ has worked with for the past two years, to support projects across the UK for disadvantaged young people. In total, donations of over £35,000 have been raised for LandAid.
Colin Wilson, Head of DTZ UK & Ireland said: “I am delighted by the dedication of our staff, clients and suppliers to this event. Cycling the equivalent of London to Sydney, and back, alongside raising so much money for LandAid are fantastic achievements. The energy created by the event was tremendous and it showed some of the best attributes of DTZ staff both in the commitment to complete the challenge but also in the team work which turned Bike Week into a reality.”
Joanna Averley, Chief Executive at LandAid said: “DTZ Bike Week has been incredible. The energy and enthusiasm have been inspirational. The results of this event are a great example of how a property company can help support projects across the UK while also encouraging team work and having fun! We’re immensely grateful to everyone who was involved from DTZ and beyond, and the money raised will make a real difference in the lives of young people which our projects touch across the UK. Thank you so much for such an amazing achievement.”
