LandAid Day 2016: What’s happening!

This year’s future-themed LandAid Day is approaching fast and the property industry are getting ready to launch their ideas. Here’s what’s coming up:

Our fundraisers’ energy is out-of-this-world. RICS employees have set themselves the epic team challenge of cycling the distance to the moon and Capstone Property Recruitment will be pedalling the distance to the international space station. Carter Jonas, Land Insight, Paragon and PwC, meanwhile, will all be going for glory in their fast and furious space-hopper races.

Bilfinger GVA is taking things to the next level with virtual reality headsets and planning a shoot-’em-up challenge, while Pinsent Masons is holding a virtual horse racing night. Technology has also come in handy for SEGRO, whose staff are putting on their own Olympics with a Wii twist.

Frogmore employees are getting creative and will be competing in teams to see who can build the best rocket as well as designing their own alien game. As our LandAid Day workshop proved, you’ll be amazed at what a bit of tin foil can do!

AGL, Bond Dickinson, BNP Paribas Real Estate, Capital and Regional, Connect Communications, Grainger, Montagu Evans, Mayer Brown, Nabarro, Native Land and Tuffin Ferraby Taylor will all be competing for the title of Star Baker in their cosmic cake sales. Knight Frank has put its own spin on futuristic cooking and is holding a Cuisine of the Future’ bush-tucker challenge. APL is planning a fundraising dinner, JLL Leeds is holding a hot-dog eating contest and Redwood Consulting is hosting cream tea and cocktails. Sounds like perfect timing for Grosvenor employees, who will be looking for a feast after bringing their month of LandAid Lent’ to an end!

Gerald Eve, Muse Developments and Sweett Group will be cracking out the sci-fi classics in their futuristic film screenings. Meanwhile, Mark Reynolds, CEO of Mace, is setting clients the challenge of guessing what he wanted to be growing up and releasing never-seen-before footage of the right answer. Get the popcorn ready…

Palmer Capital will be announcing the winners of its LandAid Money Maker Challenge’, where CEO Alex Price set twelve organisations, including Savills, Cubex and Angle Property, the challenge of turning £250 of his personal cash into as much money as possible. We’ve seen impressive results all round – with Opus North’s Yorkshire cycling challenge and the Wrenbridge world cup doing particularly well – but Opus Land looks poised to take the top spot, having raised over £6,500 from its Hagley Road Abseil in Birmingham.

This LandAid Day will be as sporty as ever, from Broadgate Estates’ football tournament to CoStar’s Glasgow 10K, from Irwin Mitchell‘s spinathon in Leeds to Shaftesbury’s Swinger’s Golf Tournament. Quantem Consulting will be warming up for the Birmingham Wolf Run in November and a 45 mile walk in Reading. And in contrast to RICS and Capstone, TowerEight staff have decided that cycling beyond the stratosphere is not for them – they’ll be sticking to a warmer climate and pedalling to Majorca!

Aviva, Cushman and Wakefield, Elian, Hammerson, IDI Gazeley, M&G Real Estate, Mansford and our Manchester Ambassadors will bring property masterminds together for a series of futuristic quizzes this LandAid Day. Meanwhile, Bilfinger GVA Birmingham is doing things old-school, literally, with a week’s worth of lunchtime challenges: sports day, puzzles, buzzer questions, bake off and a quiz.

RBS employees will really have their thinking-hats on as they hold a political and economic seminar with an appearance from LandAid’s own CEO Paul Morrish!

Other companies will be putting a fun spin on the work routine: Muse Developments is holding an office chair race, Voyanta are breaking out the Pictionary, Lambert Smith Hampton are rolling out a raffle, Cluttons has a wacky tie day, Tuffin Ferraby Taylor is auctioning off half a day’s leave while Lot 11’s online property auction will provide some handy distraction from emails. Helical employees are planning a new way to get around town and thinking of swapping last year’s pedal bus for a colourful ride in the LandAid Cab.

The entertainment will continue into the evening with a drinks reception hosted by Palmer Capital, including a silent auction with fantastic prizes to be won.

But the fun (and fundraising) doesn’t end there. LaSalle Investment Management is holding a post-LandAid Day football, netball and dodgeball tournament for those with energy left. Look out for LandAid’s very own dodgeball team, Reservoir Dodge!

There’s still time to do something funny, sporty or futuristic for LandAid Day on 13 October. Check out our fundraising toolkit for inspiration or email our fundraising team if you want to talk through an idea. Don’t forget, the money you raise will help give young people facing homelessness across the UK a brighter future.
