As a result of COVID-19, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale’s services have completely ceased for 120 of its service users. For young people who were on the verge of independence, losing their freedom has been acutely difficult. Isolation has created additional anxiety and uncertainty, coupled with increased difficulties in accessing supports. Over the last few weeks, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale has received reports of problems with sleep, panic attacks and frequent urges to self-harm.
LandAid’s £10,000 grant will fund regular telephone contact to promote positive wellbeing, and deliveries of home essentials and food parcels.
Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale supports young people aged 14-25 in Rochdale, Oldham and Tameside – all boroughs with amongst the highest proportion of poverty in Greater Manchester.
