Steptober sees nearly 600 property professionals walk around the world over four times for LandAid in October

The second Steptober event, the industry-wide step challenge powered by M7 Real Estate, drew to a close on 31 October. The event has now raised over £85,000 for LandAid, the property industry charity. The money raised will go towards LandAid’s mission to end youth homelessness.

The challenge was made possible thanks to M7 Real Estate, event partner Coyote Software, media and data partner EG, who promoted Steptober each week throughout October, and event supporter IPSX.

Steptober challenged 582 professionals from across the property industry to see which team of four could log the highest step count throughout the month of October, with this year’s challenge also featuring an individual leaderboard.

Steptober was capped off with a prize giving event, Step Up To The Podium, on 31 October kindly hosted by M7 Real Estate.

Five hotly-contested prizes were up for grabs on the evening. Alter Domus’ team AD Coast Busters walked away with the Team with the Highest Step Count Award, sponsored by Logicor, logging a staggering 4,146,517 steps between them. They were closely followed by the Leach Rhodes Walker team and M7: The Fit Bits in second and third place, respectively.

Grainger Plc won the Highest Team Fundraiser Award, raising an incredible £3,177.80, which is enough to pay for three new kitchens to help young people learn valuable life skills.

Hugo Alves in Alter Domus’ team AD Coast Busters won the Individual with the Highest Step Count Award, taking 1,430,220 steps – an average of 46,136 steps a day.

The CEO Challenge saw 12 property top dogs stepping against each other to see who came out on top. The winner of the CEO Challenge Award for the Highest Step Count was Bill Hughes of Legal and General Real Assets, logging a huge 883,867 steps throughout. The CEO Challenge Award for the Highest Fundraiser went to David Sleath, Chief Executive Officer of SEGRO, who’s raised £5,230.

David said: ‘I’ve really enjoyed being part of LandAid’s Steptober challenge again this year. Raising money to enable LandAid to address youth homelessness in itself is rewarding, but forcing us all to think twice before jumping into taxis or public transport – and walk it instead – has certainly forced me to change my habits for the better.’

Steptober was kicked off on LandAid Day, property’s biggest day of fundraising, on 1 October. The day saw property companies taking part in a variety of Around The World-themed activities to raise money for LandAid.

Paul Morrish, Chief Executive, LandAid, said: ‘This year’s Steptober challenge was bigger and better than ever, and I’m not just saying that because I got the most steps of anyone at LandAid! It was amazing to see so many property industry professionals coming together to step up to end youth homelessness, and I’m absolutely in awe of some of the step counts towards the top of the leaderboard. Thank you so much to everyone who took part – you’ve made an unbelievable difference to the lives of vulnerable young people. See you next year!’
