About the Organisation

www.action4youth.org

Action4Youth is a dynamic charity reaching and improving the lives of 25,000 local children and young people in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.  We are leaders within the youth sector, actively engaged with local government, the police, and other stakeholders to shape policy across Bucks, including hosting an annual conference.

Action4Youth is here for every child and young person, regardless of background or ability. We work to change lives and create better chances for young people by creating opportunities to discover their personal strengths and potential, to ensure that everyone has the chance to enter adulthood as positive, confident members of the community.

We are passionate about the children and young people we work with, and the services we deliver to help them overcome a wide range of challenges. Our programmes include holistic support for vulnerable, disadvantaged and disabled young people, employability and enrichment programmes for those who are on the cusp of exclusion, engaging with criminality or knife crime, or lacking opportunity and positive role models; as well as leadership and life skills initiatives, including for National Citizenship Scheme (NCS) students. We work with primary schools, other youth groups and charities from our region serving children and young people from all backgrounds and strive to be as inclusive as possible.

A key element of our delivery is the programme of outstanding adventure activities and outdoor education we offer at our outdoor learning centre, Caldecotte Xperience. Located by a lake on the edge of Milton Keynes, the centre offers the widest range of land- and water-based activities in the region, delivering measurable improvements in educational attainment, as well as building teamwork, bonding and trust.

As part of efforts to increase their reach and impact as many children and young people as possible, Action4Youth are seeking to develop the facilities at the Caldecotte Xperience.

The existing building at the site has not been updated for many years, the space is not large enough nor flexible enough, and it is becoming tired. The charity has ambitious plans to increase the indoor space available and open it up to create a modern facility that enables them to increase their provision, be even more inclusive and better able to accommodate more children and young people throughout the year.

They hope that the improvements they seek to make will create a better dining space, a flexible indoor recreational area, and break out spaces. There are also dormitories on site that they would like to make more disability friendly.

The charity has agreed concept drawings with architects and commissioned plans which will take them to the building regulations stage, with planning consent potentially required for some modest external changes.

Action4Youth would therefore now welcome pro bono support with one or both of the following:

  • Cost estimates to create bills of quantities and provide indicative costs for the outlined project and design set out by the architect. This will assist with funding applications, budgeting, and project management.
  • A Project Manager to oversee the process of redeveloping the Caldecotte Xperience project, to have some involvement in the early stages, and to act as the key link person as they progress into tendering and eventually building.
