About the Organisation
Evolve Housing and Support are a small housing association and charity providing supported housing to homeless and vulnerable people of all ages. We have existed as charity for over 100 years, previously operating as a YMCA until 2015.
Every year, we provide housing and support to over 1,000 people impacted by homelessness in the London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Merton and Kensington and Chelsea. We deliver personal support built around each person’s unique strengths, aspirations and goals. By doing so, we help them move away from homelessness and into independence, for good. We work to deliver the following:
- We work with a diverse range of people with varying levels of support needs.
- We have specialist provision for care leavers, young parents with children under 2 years old, and for single people with support needs. A significant proportion of our clients are aged between 16 and 24.
- We provide supported accommodation for people who need somewhere to live.
- We run a rapid assessment beds and emergency accommodation with 28- day assessment, referral and resettlement for adults at risk of rough sleeping.
- We offer a health and wellbeing service to meet the mental and physical health needs of those staying with us, providing therapeutic intervention and a trauma informed approach.
- We deliver a work and learning programme to equip people with the skills and experience they need to find jobs and educational opportunities.
- We work with young parents and children at risk of exclusion to build the skills and resilience that can help prevent homelessness before it starts.

Evolve own King George’s House in Stockwell, Lambeth. Whilst not listed, this landmark, red-brick Edwardian building, is a large cross-shaped 9 storey structure with many original features.
Until recently the building has been used to provide supported accommodation to homeless young people in Lambeth, in 87 self-contained units of accommodation (studio flats), although this service is being decommissioned and decanted, and will be empty from 01/04/2023.
There are also large communal spaces on the 1st floor and the large lower ground floor is currently leased to London Early Years Foundation for use as a nursery.
The building has fallen into disrepair and is no longer fit for purpose. Evolve Housing and Support are therefore exploring the potential of the building and the works that could be undertaken to provide different types of accommodation, designed to meet identified types of social housing / homelessness need in the area.
They are therefore seeking pro bono services to deliver the following:
- Full building condition survey, including passive fire survey
- Design/architectural services to ascertain potential configuration options
