About the Organisation
TALENT IS EVERYWHERE, OPPORTUNITY IS NOT. The Talent Tap’s mission is to deliver long term social impact by giving life changing, career enhancing opportunities to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds across the UK.
Accessing high quality career opportunities whilst at university is a challenge, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds- despite large strides in access and recruitment practices, the cliché of “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” still rings true. Students can be held back by barriers around networks or networking skills, a lack of self-confidence or simply living too far away from potential opportunities.
Our unique multi-year programme aims to remove the barriers for students throughout their time at university by providing:
- An annual, in-person two-week work placement tailored to their interests.
- City-based residential accommodation and all travel and subsistence, enabling their work experience placement.
- A package of skills workshops, networking events and cultural opportunities, embedded within the residential.
- Year-round mentoring from our network of business -volunteers from general careers advice to specific support e.g., applications, interviews etc.
- Extensive pastoral support, fostering a sense of belonging for our students.
The Talent Tap works with young people aged between 17 and 25 years old, who attended schools in the bottom 20% of the SMIC (Social Mobility Index by Constituency) and who either received FSM (Free School Meals) or are 1st generation university. We target 60% of our participants from rural and coastal areas, who experience a unique set of social mobility barriers.
The programme is designed to build students confidence, remove financial and geographic barriers, and give extensive knowledge of and skills in the sectors students are interested in, all with the ultimate aim of helping disadvantaged students get the jobs they want.
In 2023 we supported 120 students’ accommodation needs in London and Manchester. In London we were able to find accommodation for 90 students. In 2024 we will have 150 students on our programme, 100 in London and 50 in Manchester.

Last year The Talent Tap spent almost £84K on accommodation in London and Manchester alone. This is a huge proportion of the funds they raise could be better used to develop their programme and offer direct support directly to their beneficiaries.
The Talent Tap are therefore looking for support with identifying free or low-cost quality accommodation for the students who attend their residential work experience programme in London and Manchester, for two weeks in July 2024.
The summer programme runs from 2nd July to 11th July 2024 and accommodation is needed for the entirety of those dates.
Timeline
The accommodation needs to be confirmed by 1st December 2023.
