The Winch

About the Organisation

The Winch is a youth and community charity, based in Swiss Cottage Camden. Founded in 1972, when local residents repurposed a derelict pub into a much-needed community space, they serve around 2000 children, young people and families a year.

They offer a ‘cradle-to-community’ pipeline of services to children and families, from birth to the transition into adulthood and up to the age of 25. Their services include support for new families in temporary accommodation, an Ofsted outstanding after school club and holiday play scheme for children attending local primary schools, and a range of youth services, from estate-based outreach and social action, mentoring for young people at risk of school exclusion, and in-school curriculum enrichment workshops.

They are focused on delivering the following outcomes:

1. Increase young peoples strengths, skills and sense of belonging
2. Connect people to more resourceful communities
3. Back community-led change
4. Adapt, learn and grow
