About the Organisation

triangleadventureplayground.com

The Triangle Adventure Playground is London’s oldest on-site adventure playground. Established 1957 it holds a 67-year history of supporting generations of children and young people (CYP) aged 6-17 in Lambeth.

Through enjoyable and varied play the Triangle helps young people to improve their physical and mental health; learn new skills and gain new experiences; make friends for life and embrace a positive future. Every day Triangle encourages young people to make choices, understand how to take risks and stay safe. During play sessions they learn to win & lose gracefully and to strive to improve which encourages resilience. Outdoor play helps them stay healthy and strong. Our artistic and creative play releases stress as well as developing minds and skills.

We provide free adventure play sessions following a child led ethos. 190 after school sessions, 55 holiday sessions and 38 lunchtime visiting school sessions, a total of 843 hours of exciting and engaging adventure play each year. In addition to play therapy, they also support young adults into employment via our volunteer to playworker graduate scheme.

The Triangle is based in Oval Lambeth. We are in the top 14% of wards nationwide IMD 2019 for Crime, Health and Overall Deprivation. 43% of Lambeth children are classified as living in poverty. 39% of Lambeth children by year 6 are overweight or obese. Children from more deprived areas of Lambeth are more likely to be obese at school entry.

The Triangle has operated on a piece of land leased from Lambeth Council since our founding in 1957. The area of the land is 2430 metre squared. They most recently renewed their lease in 2018 for 15 years until 2033, thus it has 9 years left. As part of capital works grant applications, they require a lease of 10+ years and so have begun the renewal process with Lambeth Council, who are long term supporters of the charity. They have sent them the initial list of required documents including a business plan and Heads of Terms.

However, the charity wishes to want to extend the area of the leasehold to include an additional 380 metres squared. For context, this council owned land sits next to their North facing fence and was once part of their leasehold.

Therefore they are eagerly seeking pro bono legal support with the renewal and extension process.
