About the Organisation

Homepage – National Pro Bono Centre

The National Pro Bono Centre supports lawyers who are doing pro bono work for people who are unable to pay for legal services and professional expertise to help them access justice. These lawyers are working on cases for individuals who need justice or wider access to justice projects.

The NPBC sits across the legal sector to support solicitors, barristers and frontline charities who use lawyers as part of their advice programmes.

The NPBC exists to support charities and organisations that enable and broker pro bono legal work.

Their work extends beyond those charities that have pro bono at their heart, to include any organisation that provides help to the public for free by using lawyers who volunteer their time and expertise.

In a nutshell, they are a virtual hub that:

  • Connects and provides support and resources for charities that deliver free legal pro bono advice to members of the public all over the UK.
  • Helps solicitors, barristers and law students find ways they can use their skills through pro bono groups and organisations.
  • Encourages professionals, organisations and educational institutions to set up their own pro bono programmes.
  • Hosts searchable volunteering opportunities on our website.

The National Pro Bono Centre are urgently looking for expertise on behalf of a barrister who is working pro bono for a lady who is challenging her landlord and their failure to carry out essential repairs to the flat over many years.

The barrister is looking for an expert surveyor to assist with evidencing why the landlord should carry out the repairs that they are obliged to. Previous hearings have compelled the landlord to repair the flat in 2020, however when it was finally completed it was of very poor quality and has exacerbated the issues the repairs were intending to address.

The landlord’s position is that the work was carried out, and a surveyor is needed to inspect the property and write a report on whether the works have been completed properly, and if any remedial work is needed.

So the NPBC would really benefit from an objective specialist surveyor to help strengthen their challenge on behalf of this individual.
