About the Organisation

REMO

REMO, is a social enterprise and charity that believes accessing home essentials and creative opportunities doesn’t need to cost the earth. For almost 20 years, they have been on the frontline of rescuing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling materials to create sustainable, useful and creative products and services. With help from their local community members and resellers, REMO has already diverted nearly a million litres of paint and hundreds of tonnes of furniture, food and creative materials from landfill.

REMO’s story started in 2005 when it began raising awareness about reusing and recycling at a time when some councils didn’t have recycling services. Since then, they have expanded the initiatives, contributing to the circular economy by reducing waste and keeping a wide range of resources in use for as long as possible. As of 2025, they occupy two locations in Cambridgeshire, an online shop, and a portfolio of people and planet-positive schemes.

With the aspiration to create a vibrant alternative “edge of town” circular economy, manufacturing, retail, education, creative and cultural centre, they have purchased a 13.413 sq ft, 1970’s ex meat factory which is brick built, has its own curtilage and car park. For additional context: It is situated at the entrance to an industrial estate, it backs onto an industrial railway yard and overlooks some domestic dwellings, recycling centre, nature reserve and a landfill/hill. (we have a high water table)

To make this bold and innovative vision a reality, REMO has a few phases that they are seeking pro bono support with:

1) Planning Permission: They are seeking support with the planning permission for an onsite cafe which can serve visitors to the Eco Hub and the industrial estate.

2) Architectural Design / Engineering support: To help them devise how they can develop the site into a minimum 3 storey building by “top hatting” the existing structure and adding at least two floors / stories.

3) Planning permission: For the new site, project development and any other additional support needed.
