£80,000 will turn three empty properties into decent affordable housing for six young people
We awarded a grant to help Sunderland YMCA convert eight examination rooms in a former GP surgey to create eight self-contained one-bed flats with their own bathrooms, two shared kitchens and a dining area and a staff area and communal living room.
The accommodation includes a staged approach to independent living and will allow young people to develop the skills needed to live independently, helping them belong, contribute and thrive as independent citizens in the community. The project will provide tailored support for young people with complex needs. They have a teaching team who provide the numeracy and literacy skills as well as life skills, employability and mental and physical health training.
