East Cleveland Youth Housing Trust – COVID-19 Emergency Fund

East Cleveland Youth Housing Trust is celebrating 20 years of serving the rural, ex mining villages of East Cleveland. The Trust was established in response to an identified need to tackle unemployment and lack of affordable housing. This is achieved through a process of acquiring run down properties, renovating and letting them to young people in housing need.

The collapse of the tourism industry had a heavy impact on the young people East Cleveland Youth Housing Trust support. The majority of housing in East Cleveland was back-to-back terraced houses, where many were self-isolating. The structure of the housing exacerbated their young people’s already underlying health issues.

Phase 1

LandAid’s £8,205 grant helped make up the shortfall of its tenants’ loss of income and reduction in Universal Credit. This fund will also help to cover PPE and resources for young people.

Phase 2

This £9,650 phase two grant helped to modernise and repurpose a one-bed property opposite East Cleveland Youth Housing Trust’s base to make it easy clean for a quick turn round. This allowed the Trust to offer short-term, emergency accommodation for people in need such as those who are self-isolating. The grant also helped fund new computer systems to enable East Cleveland Youth Housing Trust to communicate more effectively with tenants, outside agencies and improving overall efficiency.
