Fat Macy’s

Fat Macy’s trains aspiring chefs to serve up food with heart, creating a recipe that helps young Londoners make the journey from hostel to home.

Cost of the project

£100,000

Location

London, UK

Our £100,000 grant will help to fund Fat Macy’s’ first commercial restaurant space (with full commercial kitchen and a small deli) at 210 Rye Lane at the end of 2019. The restaurant has a four-bed flat above which they are planning to turn into a ‘microhostel’ for four of their trainees, to provide extra assistance and move on support as they plan their journey from hostel to home.

The restaurant will provide opportunities for a minimum of 20 trainees per year to start a 200-hour work experience placement in their restaurant. This will cover front of house, service, kitchen prep, pot washing, and set up and clean down.
