Press release: LandAid launches first 10K for youth homelessness in the Midlands

LandAid is launching its first ever 10K race to tackle youth homelessness in the Midlands. The property industry charity is calling on runners of all abilities to challenge one another, push for a personal best or make their running debut in the inaugural LandAid Midlands 10K.

On Wednesday 13 September, the LandAid Midlands 10K sponsored by St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, takes place in Longbridge, Birmingham. It will give runners the chance to race around the £1 billion redevelopment of the area, which is being transformed from the home of motoring innovation into a vibrant new community by St. Modwen.

LandAid is aiming to raise £30,000 from the race, which will help convert long-term empty properties into safe, warm homes for vulnerable young people as part of their Sponsor a Home’ campaign. The majority of funds raised will support young homeless people in the Midlands, with the rest going towards other homelessness projects across the UK.

The LandAid Midlands 10K follows the success of the LandAid 10K in London, which is now in its 21st year and last year saw 800 property runners taking part to help end youth homelessness.

Tickets for the LandAid Midlands 10K are now on sale. Book your place today.

Paul Morrish, Chief Executive at LandAid said: ‘We’re thrilled to be holding our first LandAid Midlands 10K this year. LandAid has a strong presence in the Midlands, with a track record of supporting projects that tackle youth homelessness in the region, and with a new LandAid Midlands Board established to help drive fundraising. Too many young people still face the danger and insecurity of having nowhere safe to sleep at night, which is why we are calling on as many runners as possible to lace up their trainers and join the race to end youth homelessness in the Midlands’.

Mark Allan, Chief Executive at St. Modwen said: ‘We are very proud to be the hosts and headline sponsors of LandAid’s first 10K run in Birmingham. St. Modwen is committed to creating long-term sustainable communities and breathing new life into areas that need it the most across the UK. Therefore, we place great importance on the work LandAid carries out, delivering life changing services to young people facing homelessness. Longbridge is a perfect destination for the 10K run and we look forward to participating in the event alongside colleagues, partners and clients in September.’
