Mental Wealth Problems

I was struck by two separate but connected facts last week. The first fact was the shocking statistic that well over a third of young people who are homeless are also struggling with a mental health problem. Homeless Link's excellent Young & Homeless 2018 report - jointly funded by LandAid and Comic Relief - highlighted the prevalence of mental health problems among an already very vulnerable group of young people.

Deeds not words – MIPIM: a woman’s perspective

Attending the MIPIM Conference in Cannes was something that filled me with excitement, looking forward to the raft of opportunities that lay ahead. Being in the charity sector, there aren't many opportunities to travel to Cannes on business! However, in the wake of the #MeToo movement and The President's Club- the property sector has been under fire. Not to mention the media attack on the charity sector, due diligence has never been higher on the agenda. Whilst attending MIPIM is a fabulous opportunity and one that would provide endless contacts and opportunities for LandAid, it also posed potential risks to attendees and organisations alike.

Five lessons I’ve learnt during my internship at LandAid

My time as an intern at LandAid has been both educational and rewarding in equal measure. While homelessness is an issue which has always been important to me, I did not appreciate how my knowledge of the subject would completely transform after working for the property industry charity. I could write a book on my experiences and how much I've learnt! But here are my top five take home' messages which should hopefully provide a snapshot of my time working for LandAid.

Homelessness affects every single community across the country. Shelter’s figures this month must shock us all – at least 1 in 200 people in this country sleep rough or do not have a secure home.

It is a great honour to be here with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors for one of your moments marking your 150 years. The R.I, c.S. is one of this country's great institutions, and the link between you and The Royal Family is one that we treasure as much as we hope you do.
