Habitat for Humanity GB Homes

We’re proud to have awarded £105,000 to Habitat for Humanity GB Homes to provide much-needed accommodation for young people leaving care in Barking. The grant will help bring an empty property above a shop into use as a shared house for young people leaving care, who may otherwise face homelessness.

Cost of the project

£105,000

Location

Barking, UK

The majority of the grant (£80,000) has been kindly provided by developers SEGRO who have been investing in the borough of Barking and Dagenham for several years.

We also arranged free planning and architectural advice for the project which was provided by CBRE.

The impact

The property will be repaired and converted to provide homes for two young people, aged 16 to 18, and a 24/7 live-in care worker. The young people will have en-suite bedrooms and a shared kitchen. The care worker’s accommodation includes a separate bathroom and office space.

The project will help address a critical, local need for accommodation and give young people leaving care a safe and suitable place to live that will help them make a positive transition into adulthood.
