ROC Solid – COVID-19 Emergency Fund

Roc Solid provides accommodation and support to young people who present with a range of disadvantages and vulnerabilities: homelessness, leaving care, pregnant and unsupported, ex-offenders, mental ill health, drug or alcohol dependency.

Cost of the project

£20,000

Location

Newton Aycliffe, UK

COVID-19 had a significant impact on ROC Solid’s young people. The young people were no longer able to meet with their friends or develop their social skills. Disrupted education or employment had a lasting effect on the financial security of young people at risk of homelessness.

Phase 1

LandAid’s £4,000 grant supported young people living in ROC Solid’s accommodation. The grant covered the cost of food parcels, utility bills and PPE. A soup kitchen had been set up to provide hot meals for any resident in need, and this emergency grant covered the cost of supplies.

Phase 2

This £16,000 phase two grant enabled ROC Solid to continue to convert a house into three flats to accommodate more young people. This grant also paid for general building work and the installation of two shower units.
