SHAID – COVID-19 Emergency Fund

SHAID (Single Homeless Action Initiative in Durham) provides 24-hour supported accommodation for people at risk of homelessness, including care leavers and ex-service personnel (‘early leavers’). It provides training opportunities, health advice and help with a range of issues, such as trauma, substance misuse.

Cost of the project

£10,000

Location

Durham, UK

The COVID-19 crisis had a huge impact on SHAID’s community. Due to the Government isolating guidelines, people on low income were struggling with lack of food, electricity or gas. This became more challenging until the Government lifted isolating restrictions.

LandAid’s £10,000 grant funded a project manager role. The project manager was able to buy food, clothing and electric for SHAID’s vulnerable young people. They will also help to arrange for all of their young people and staff to have enough PPE.
