In the early hours of Thursday 7 September, 27 Colliers graduates from across the UK gathered at Gatwick airport to make haste for Geneva. The much-anticipated Colliers 'Tour de Mont Blanc' had begun in earnest, after many months of fundraising and preparation. Here's what happened, in their own words:
At six foot eight inches tall and weighing over 100kg I am not really built to be on a bike let alone cycle 100 miles on one. I have always wanted to do the RideLondon 100 and missed out on the ballot in previous years. So when the opportunity arose to participate in the event with LandAid I jumped at the opportunity and signed up.
This week we visited charity partner Hope into Action: Black Country in the West Midlands, who provide supported housing for people facing homelessness in Wolverhampton. Hope into Action was awarded a LandAid grant to refurbish four shared houses in four different locations including Wolverhampton, as well as an additional home in Wolverhampton as part of our Sponsor a Home campaign.
From marathon runners to causal joggers, anyone can take on the LandAid 10K challenge and succeed! Michael Wright, Senior Building Surveyor at Watts Group, and Emily Locke, Marketing Executive at Native Land, both claimed trophies in property's biggest 10K last year.
It started with a mischievous suggestion from a friend. Justin Brand and his wife, Jo Allen (of Frogmore), were planning for Jo's 50th birthday with friends when one of them suggested that to mark the occasion, she could aim to take on the London Marathon. It’s a view close to our hearts here at LandAid. A year ago we set out to achieve lasting change with a clear goal in mind: to end youth homelessness. This in itself had us concentrating our efforts on one pressing issue. But over the year, we recognised the need to focus even further.
In the most recent Housing White Paper, the government announced plans to provide public money and land for new modular housing in the quest for solutions to the housing crisis. To find out more about how alternative housing solutions can help young people with nowhere safe to live, I visited QED Property at the Bordars Walk site, where they are working on a scheme, designed to deliver emergency accommodation for local people who have been, or are about to be made homeless.
