Single mother Dawn faced homelessness when fleeing domestic violence at home. She received help from GIPSIL’s Leaving Care Team, who supported her to secure a direct let with Leeds Federated Housing Association. As this was a quick move, GIPSIL supported Dawn in applying for dual Housing Benefit was applied for and an application to Leeds Welfare Support Scheme was made.
As a temporary measure Dawn’s child needed to be placed with a friend until the risk of domestic violence was reduced. The quick response and help provided by GIPSIL meant that the time Dawn was separated from her child was. Both are now happy and settling in well in their new home.
