Caritas Salford is a social action charity with a mission to help people in Greater Manchester, experiencing poverty, disadvantage, and discrimination to transform their lives with dignity.
We provide a practical response to those in crisis, suffering hardship or who are at risk, enabling people to live in a safe, healthy, and secure environment to rebuild their lives for the long-term. Our Homelessness Service includes day centres and supported accommodation projects to help prevent people from becoming homeless and provide a route into a new home for those that do experience homelessness.
We provide a range and mix of services and supported accommodation across Great Manchester including:
- Morning Star – hostel with 20 bed spaces for single men over 18 experiencing homelessness.
- Cornerstone Day Centre.
- Young Parents’ Accommodation Blackburn.
- Red Door Centre – Red Door is our day centre for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Bury.
- Ukraine Link Service.
- Lalley Centre, Community Pantry & Allotment.
Our centres enable people to improve their wellbeing through providing services which meet immediate basic needs, promote mental health and wellbeing, enable people to access health and other support services and to take up education, training, volunteering opportunities and employment, as a means of sustaining positive housing outcomes. With around 80 people a day accessing centres where we provide a free breakfast, hot showers, and a range of activities, 1:1 support and advice, as well as access/signposting to other agencies.

Caritas Salford would like support to increase their presence in both Blackburn and Bolton. They currently provide accommodation for young parents in Blackburn and recently closed their space in Bolton. Although they own the building in Blackburn, it is not fit for purpose as it is a period property and inefficient. Caritas would eventually like support to explore their options for the building in Blackburn but would welcome support to first focus on finding a suitable property in Bolton. Requirements for the space include the potential to have:
- 6-10 self-contained 1 bed ensuite flats or bedsits.
- Office space.
- Communal areas.
- Low carbon living.
- Accessible space.
The charity is open to renovating a building but it would need space to include the rooms above.
