About the Organisation

www.foyer.net

The Foyer Federation was established in the early 1990s to promote and develop an alternative to hostel provision for young people experiencing homelessness and employment challenges.

They work with young people aged 16-25 with experience of homelessness through a network of 68 Foyers, which provide safe accommodation and a nurturing environment in which residents live, learn and work. Inspiring through and beyond their national Foyer network, they shape new Advantaged Thinking approaches that change the paradigm by giving young people greater power and purpose in their lives – reaching over 2,500 young people each year.

Their track record includes introducing the sector’s first national learning qualifications and quality assurance programme, developing national projects innovating approaches to health and wellbeing, employability, and social action, and amplifying positive, person-centred, strength-based models of working through their celebrated Advantaged Thinking framework.

Their most recent benchmarking figures show that 78% to 90% of young people leaving Foyers report progress in their housing, finance, health, social network, and personal development goals, with 50% in education or work on exit.

The Advantaged Thinking Learning Community project endeavours to cultivate a vibrant learning environment by creating a bank of accessible and engaging learning materials. The project seeks to embrace existing learning programmes in Foyers while stimulating new approaches by creating a ‘living curriculum’ that remains relevant to people’s aspirations.

The learning community aims to be a place where young people and staff can come to learn, develop a range of skills, share and be inspired.

The Foyer Federation are seeking Pro Bono support to help with the creation of their learning platform. More specifically:

  • Oversight of platform flow and UX to ensure youth-friendliness and accessibility.
  • Collaboration with young individuals to incorporate their perspectives into program design.
  • Coordination with the program manager to align platform features with project goals.
