SOUTH WEST- Bath

About the Organisation

www.julianhouse.org.uk

Julian House provides life-changing and life-saving support for people who are vulnerable or at-risk across the South West of England. Their accommodation and support services reach the people who have been forced to live on the edges of society, offering them a route to social inclusion and independence.

Julian House evolved from small beginnings: a group of concerned local people in Bath came together in 1987 in response to the tragic death of a man in a shop doorway and began providing food and shelter to people living on the city streets.

Today, they have developed into a diverse organisation with 200 employees and 190 volunteers. They provide a range of quality accommodation and support services which respond to the underlying complex causes of social exclusion- empowering over 2,000 people a year, across 9 local authority areas, to build sustainable, independent lives.

Their services include an emergency 20- bed hostel for rough sleepers, supported housing for those with additional needs, prison resettlement support and accommodation, refugee resettlement services and support for those living insecurely in the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller and Boater communities.

Despite rising demand, the services Julian House delivers are under threat from local government funding cuts. Their flagship service, the emergency hostel for rough sleepers in Bath, is at further risk as their long-term property lease is coming to an end in 2026.

The charity is therefore assessing their options, including the potential to develop another site which could secure the future of their service.

They require a full set of measured floor plans and a building survey, with some follow up advice from the survey regarding the likely capital expenditure required to fulfil their plans.

Julian House would therefore be very grateful for offers of pro bono support from a surveyor.

Timeline

ASAPThe project is in the early stages, but there is pressure to have a replacement plan for the current Bath Hostel as the current lease ends in 2026 with no option to extend.
